PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana Explained
The Government of India's flagship scheme, PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, aims to provide free electricity to households. Under this scheme, residential consumers receive a direct subsidy for installing rooftop solar plants.
- Up to 2 kW: ₹30,000 per kW subsidy.
- Additional 1 kW (Total 3 kW): ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW.
- Max Subsidy: Capped at ₹78,000 for systems 3 kW and above.
System Types: On-Grid vs. Off-Grid
On-Grid (Grid-Tied)
- Connected to the utility grid.
- Net Metering: Export excess power to the grid for credits.
- Most cost-effective solution (Lowest per-unit cost).
- Does not work during grid power cuts (safety requirement).
Off-Grid (Battery Based)
- Completely independent of the grid.
- Requires batteries to store power for night use.
- Ideal for remote areas with no grid access.
- Significantly more expensive due to battery maintenance.
